Sightseeing is as simple and inexpensive as a Star Ferry or tram ride, or as elaborate as a day at Ocean Park or Disneyland. There are fascinating museums, temples and open markets for which Hong Kong is famous. In the urban areas, there are many chances for good photos - colorful signs, markets, people, double-deck trolleys and buses. Riding in the front seat of an upper-deck is a cheap way to see the sights. Hong Kong has many amateur photographers so don’t be surprised if a Hong Kong or mainland Chinese tourist takes your picture. Public parks are well used and a good place to people-watch.
A ride on the Star Ferries, in operation since 1898 is a must. Sailing between Tsimshatsui, Wanchai and Central, second-class seats, on the lower deck cost HK$2.00 (about US twenty five cents), while upper deck first-class seats go for HK$2.50. The Star Ferry is a bargain.
Running from 0630 to 2330, the route from Tsimshatsui to Central is the busiest. There are ferries between Tsimshatsui and Wanchai (0730-2300) for HK$2.50 and between Central to Hung Hom and Wanchai to Hung Hom (0700-1900) for HK$6.30.
