TEMPLE STREET

Temple Street Night Market is several streets filled with shopping stalls. It opens at dusk and is the perfect place to pick up inexpensive souvenirs, clothes and electronic goods. It is a seedy area but has its excitement. You'll find fortune-tellers, sidewalk seafood restaurants and knickknacks of every kind for sale. Don't eat at the food stalls. Chinese operas are performed on the street next to a public parking lot.

Take the MTR from Admiralty three stops on the red line to Yau Ma Tei. Take the exit for "Man Ming Lane." At street level, walk straight back about 150 steps. When you see a few vendors and tables laden with yet-to-be-cooked seafood, you've found the northern end of Temple Street. From here on, follow the crowds and WATCH YOUR WALLET!

Temple Street ends at Jordan Road. To return to Fenwick Pier, you turn to your left and walk three blocks to the MTR (Jordan) station. It is only two stops to Admiralty, near Fenwick Pier.

BBQ AT DEEP WATER BAY

Deep Water Bay Beach is one of Hong Kong's nicer beaches. Between Aberdeen and Repulse Bay on the south side of the island, Deep Water Bay Beach is perfect for barbecues but it would be nearly impossible for you to find a seat. BBQ pits line the roadside area of the beach. Supermarkets carry BBQ meats, forks and charcoal briquettes.

Deep Water Bay is usually crowded, especially in summer. Take Bus No. 260 from Central Terminus near the Star Ferry.

CULTURAL SHOWS

There are plenty of shows and concerts performed here practically nightly and they're usually at very low prices. Check out the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. If you've never heard music played on Chinese instruments, you're in for a surprise. For information on what's playing where, go to City Hall, a ten minute walk from Fenwick Pier, for brochures and tickets.
