Smoking is not allowed in enclosed public places like theaters, buses, ferries, MTR and KCR, in enclosed restaurants and wherever you see "NO SMOKING" signs, even on some sidewalks. Hong Kong is one of the strictest NO SMOKING locations on the planet. You may not smoke in most buildings and in many public parks, in fact, in most public places. Fines are stiff.
Eating and drinking is prohibited in all MTR and KCR stations.

Many shops and restaurants provide phones for FREE for local calls or toll-FREE long-distance calls. Just ask. Public phones cost HK$1, exact change. They accept $2 and $5 coins, but don't give change if you only make one call. Don't mistake the double ring signal for a busy signal, which is a single repetitive beep.
