Hong Kong has many tailoring shops that give quality workmanship and materials for a fair price. But, there are some using poor quality materials with inferior workmanship. Beware of vendors trying to lure you into their shops for a beer or soft drink. We suggest you patronize those who advertise in this Guide to Hong Kong.
Where to shop: Go to well-established shops. Most scams take place in seedy arcades.
Material: Once you select your material, make sure you get what you asked for.
Deposit: Most tailors require a deposit. Often visitors do not return for custom-made clothing if no deposit has been made. A deposit should not exceed 30%.
Fitting: Give your tailor time for several fittings.

CAMERAS AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT
Hong Kong is a photographer's dream. When purchasing a camera in Hong Kong, a camera case is usually included FREE. Otherwise, prices are similar to New York.
Laptop computers may look attractive, but be sure they have an international warrantee.
Beware of grey market products, which arrive in Hong Kong outside the official dealer, even if not illegal, they may not include warrantees. International Warranty Cards can be phony. Check with the Information Booth for legitimate dealers.
Be sure the electronic appliance you buy is the right voltage and cycles. (Hong Kong uses 220 volts, 50 cycles while the United States uses 117volts and 60 cycles.)
